Emerging Echoes

The journal Emerging Echoes, published annually by the Centre for Women’s Studies, Kakojan College, aims to provide a scholarly platform for interdisciplinary research and critical discussions on issues concerning women and gender in diverse social, cultural, economic, political, and historical contexts.

The major objectives of the journal are:

1. To promote research on women and gender and encourage critical scholarship on the diverse experiences, contributions, challenges, and achievements of women.
2. To examine issues of violence, discrimination, inequality, poverty, exploitation, and social subjugation faced by women and girls in different societies and contexts.
3. To provide a platform for the voices and experiences of women, particularly those belonging to marginalized, disadvantaged, and vulnerable communities.
4. To highlight women’s contributions and achievements in various fields, including education, science and technology, politics, economy, culture, literature, social development, professional life, and community development.
5. To critically examine social customs, traditions, beliefs, and practices that adversely affect women’s dignity, rights, equality, and well-being.
6. To promote awareness of women’s rights, gender equality, and social justice, and encourage scholarly discussions on national and international legal and policy frameworks relating to women.
7. To encourage interdisciplinary and comparative studies addressing contemporary and historical dimensions of women’s lives and gender relations.
8. To encourage research that contributes to social transformation, empowerment, inclusion, and the advancement of women’s rights and dignity.
9. To provide a forum for researchers, academicians, practitioners, and students to exchange ideas and disseminate original research on women-related issues.
10. To document and disseminate positive experiences and success stories of women, demonstrating their resilience, leadership, creativity, and excellence across different spheres of life.

The journal welcomes original, research-based, and interdisciplinary scholarly contributions on issues related to women and gender that are consistent with its aims and objectives and contribute meaningfully to academic discourse and social understanding.

The journal Emerging Echoes is committed to publishing original, high-quality research that adheres to the highest standards of academic integrity and scholarly ethics. Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are expected to comply with the ethical principles and responsibilities outlined in this policy and to contribute to maintaining the academic and scholarly integrity of the publication.

Authors are required to read and understand this Ethical Policy before submitting their manuscripts. They must ensure that their research is conducted responsibly and that the findings, data, interpretations, and conclusions presented in their manuscripts are accurate, honest, and transparent. Any form of research misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulation of data, or misrepresentation of research findings, is unacceptable, as it may undermine the integrity of academic scholarship and mislead other researchers.

All submitted manuscripts, including research papers, review articles, case studies, and other scholarly contributions, may be subjected to an appropriate plagiarism and similarity check to identify instances of substantial textual overlap, plagiarism, or other forms of unethical content reuse. This procedure reflects the journal’s commitment to preventing academic misconduct and maintaining ethical standards in scholarly publishing.

If a manuscript is found to contain substantial plagiarism, unethical duplication, fabricated or falsified content, or other serious violations of academic integrity, the journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript. Where ethical misconduct is identified after publication, the journal may take appropriate corrective measures in accordance with established standards of publication ethics.

By submitting a manuscript to Emerging Echoes, authors acknowledge their responsibility to uphold the principles of originality, academic honesty, transparency, and scholarly integrity.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are expected to adhere to the following responsibilities:

1. Originality and Acknowledgement: Authors shall ensure that all work submitted to the journal is original and has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. All sources, ideas, quotations, data, and other materials derived from the work of others must be appropriately acknowledged and fully referenced. Authors shall also disclose the sources of all data and third-party materials used in their manuscripts. Reproducing the work of others without proper acknowledgement constitutes plagiarism. Excessive or inappropriate reuse of one’s own previously published work without proper acknowledgement, commonly referred to as self-plagiarism, is also unacceptable.
2. Corresponding Author: Authors shall provide accurate and complete contact details of the corresponding author, who shall be responsible for communicating with the journal on behalf of all authors and for responding to queries concerning authorship, originality, ethical compliance, and other matters relating to the submitted manuscript.
3. No Duplicate or Simultaneous Submission: Authors shall not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Duplicate or concurrent submissions are considered unethical and may result in rejection of the manuscript.
4. Copyright and Publication Agreement: Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors shall complete and sign the prescribed copyright or publication agreement, as applicable, in accordance with the journal’s publication policy. The agreement shall specify the rights granted or transferred to the publisher.
5. Accuracy and Integrity of Research: Authors must present their research findings, data, interpretations, and conclusions honestly and accurately. Ideas, arguments, findings, or conclusions derived from the work of other researchers must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Fabrication, falsification, manipulation, or misrepresentation of research findings is strictly unacceptable.
6. Cooperation with the Editorial Process: Authors shall cooperate fully with the Editor and Publisher and respond promptly to reasonable requests concerning research data, sources, authorship, originality, ethical approvals, or other matters relating to the manuscript. Authors also have an obligation to inform the journal promptly if they discover any significant error or inaccuracy in their submitted or published work and, where necessary, cooperate in issuing an appropriate correction or clarification.
7. Transparency and Integrity of the Editorial Process: Authors may expect the journal, its Editor, reviewers, and Publisher to conduct the editorial and peer-review process with fairness, transparency, confidentiality, efficiency, and academic integrity.
8. Permissions for Third-Party Material: Where a manuscript contains copyrighted material, photographs, tables, figures, illustrations, or other third-party content requiring permission for reproduction, the author(s) shall obtain the necessary permission from the copyright holder or rights holder and submit appropriate evidence of such permission to the journal, where required.

Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor(s)

The Editor(s) of Emerging Echoes shall uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, fairness, transparency, and confidentiality throughout the editorial and publication process. The Editor(s) shall:

1. Maintain the academic integrity, ethical standards, and fairness of the journal and ensure that all editorial decisions are guided by scholarly principles.
2. Protect the reputation and academic quality of the journal by ensuring that published works meet appropriate standards of originality, scholarly merit, intellectual quality, and contemporary relevance.
3. Ensure that all submitted manuscripts undergo an appropriate initial editorial assessment and, where suitable, a thorough, objective, and confidential peer-review process before publication.
4. Endeavour to ensure a fair, impartial, transparent, and consistent editorial and publication process, while treating all authors with respect and giving due consideration to their scholarly contributions.
5. Respond to communications from authors in a timely and professional manner, communicating decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts within a reasonable period and, where appropriate, providing clear reasons, recommendations, and relevant updates concerning the editorial process.
6. Make editorial decisions on the basis of the manuscript’s originality, scholarly merit, quality, significance, and relevance to the scope of the journal, and, as far as practicable, avoid decisions based on personal preferences, prejudice, discrimination, or any other irrelevant considerations.
7. Ensure that authors have obtained all necessary permissions, approvals, ethical clearances, or other required authorizations for the reproduction or use of third-party materials included in their manuscripts — requesting documentation where required, and referring unresolved issues to the Publisher.
8. Maintain effective, professional, and transparent communication with the Publisher, authors, reviewers, and other relevant stakeholders throughout the editorial and publication process.
9. Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and not disclose information about a manuscript to anyone other than those directly involved in its evaluation and publication, except where disclosure is required for legitimate editorial or ethical purposes.
10. Declare and appropriately manage any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that may affect the impartiality of an editorial decision.

The Peer Review Policy of Emerging Echoes establishes a systematic process for evaluating the quality, originality, academic merit, and relevance of manuscripts submitted for publication. The journal subjects research papers, articles, and other scholarly contributions to critical evaluation by independent subject experts, who are generally selected by the Editorial Board on the basis of their academic expertise and subject knowledge.

The peer-review process is intended to ensure that manuscripts published in the journal meet appropriate standards of scholarly quality, originality, academic integrity, and relevance. It also provides constructive feedback to authors and contributes to the improvement of the quality, clarity, and overall scholarly value of their work.

The peer-review process is conducted in accordance with the journal’s Ethical Policy. Reviewers are expected to assess manuscripts objectively and confidentially, and to identify, where possible, any concerns relating to plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate data presentation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, duplicate publication, or other forms of scholarly misconduct. Any suspected ethical or research-integrity concerns identified during the review process shall be brought to the attention of the Editor(s) for appropriate action.

Reviewers shall maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts under review and shall not use unpublished information obtained through the peer-review process for personal or professional advantage. They shall also disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that may affect the impartiality of their evaluation.

The journal values the contribution of its reviewers to maintaining the quality and integrity of its publications. The names of reviewers who have contributed to the journal may be acknowledged in an annual list, subject to the journal’s policy and the reviewers’ consent where applicable.

All contributions submitted to and accepted for publication in Emerging Echoes, including research articles, review articles, comments, notes, and other scholarly works, shall be published in accordance with the journal’s copyright and publication agreement.

Upon acceptance for publication, authors shall complete and sign the prescribed Copyright Transfer or Publication Agreement, as applicable. The rights acquired by the journal and the Publisher shall be governed by the terms of that agreement.

All submitted manuscripts shall be subject to an initial editorial assessment by the Editorial Board to determine their suitability for publication, including their relevance to the scope of the journal, academic quality, originality, ethical compliance, and conformity with the journal’s submission guidelines.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit accepted contributions for language, style, formatting, clarity, and general suitability for publication, without altering the author’s substantive scholarly arguments or findings without appropriate consultation.

Authors shall retain responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the content of their contributions and for obtaining any necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted or third-party materials.

Authors are requested to follow the guidelines given below while preparing and submitting manuscripts to Emerging Echoes:

1. Research Articles, Research Papers, and Book Reviews should be submitted in soft copy. The manuscript should be typed in 12-point font, using Times New Roman for English-language submissions and Ramdhenu for Assamese-language submissions, with single line spacing throughout.
2. Each Research Article or Research Paper must be accompanied by an abstract of approximately 200 words and at least 4–5 keywords. The abstract and keywords should be submitted along with the manuscript at the time of submission.
3. Illustrations, figures, maps, and graphs should be used only where necessary and should preferably be presented in black and white. They should be numbered consecutively and provided with clear and appropriate titles or captions.
4. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (e.g., Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2) and should be appropriately referred to in the text.
5. Graphs, charts, maps, and drawings should contain only the minimum amount of descriptive text necessary for clarity. Labels, symbols, legends, and other textual elements should be clear, concise, and legible.

Word Limit

The journal accepts manuscripts within the following approximate word limits:

Long Research Paper / Article	3,000–4,000 words
Short Research Paper / Article	2,000–2,500 words
Book Review	As appropriate to the scope and nature of the review

The word count should normally exclude the abstract, keywords, references, tables, and figure captions.
