Department at a glance:
The department of Sociology was
established in 1979 under the headship of Dr. Dhiren Kalita. In 1982, Dr. Ruhit
Saikia joined as Assistant Professor in the department. Dr. Ruprekha Bordoloi
joined in the year of 1989 and Mrs Dipti Tamuli joined as Assistant Professor
in the department in 1993. Borsha Rani
Bora and Minakshi Mili joined as assistant professor in the department in 2016
and Mr Probin Das joined in 2020. Sociological Study Centre, an Academic
Centre of the department was established in 2001. Dr. Ruprekha Bordoloi joined
as Principal on 15th November, 2013 and Dr Dhiren Kalita
superannuated on 30th September, 2015 and Dr Ruhit Saikia
superannuated on 2017.
Students of the department are
able to show good results in BA final Examination. A few students of the
Department are able to get 1st class 1st rank in
Dibrugarh University B.A examination. Many students have attained 1st
class with distinction in B.A examination under affiliating university.

ACTA, Jorhat Zone and Assam Down Town University for the outstanding
achievement of students in University level in the year of 2018 especially
for achieving 1st class 1st (university toper) by Miss Ananya
Boruah.
Academic Achievement of
students
Sukanya Gohain, Best Graduate (Arts) in the year of 2017. She secured 73.50%
in the final exam of Sociology.
In the year of 2018,
Ananya Boruah secured 1st class 1st position in Sociology under
Dibrugarh University. She secured 78 %.
Pubali Sarmah awarded as the Best Graduate
(Arts) in the year of 2019. She secured 84% in the B.A. final exam in
Sociology. She stood top in the
Dibrugarh University MA Entrance Exam. Pubali Sarma has cleared NET-JRF, NET, and SLET in 2022. She has
enrolled in Ph.D programme in the

of Death anniversary of G.S. Ghurye, the father of Indian Sociology. The
programme aims to make recognition of Ghurye as father of Indian Sociology. Lecture delivered by the faculties of the

department of Sociology, distributed food

time of Bohag Bihu to the destitute in Jorhat city.
Department of Sociology, Kakojan College established a
Library in Kotikuchia Village (the
adopted village of the college) in collaboration with NSS Unit, on 01/06/2022.The faculty members donated
a book shelf, 55 numbers of books and student also donated 10 numbers of books
to the library.
Field Study:
6th semester students visited
Kakojan Primary Health Centre nearby
Kakojan College to study on the topic ‘pre-natal and post-natal care of the
mother and new born baby; A sociological Study on Kakojan Primary Health
Centre’ under the supervision of faculty members of the department of
Sociology- Dipti Tamuli ,Borsha Rani Bora, Minakshi Mili, and SnigdhanjolI Kalita on 12/4/2017. The
major objective of the study was to observe the facilities provided by PHC,
Kakojan to pre -natal and post-natal mothers and new born babies.
On 15/3/2019, the
students of 6th semester visited Kakojan Primary Health Centre to
study on Kakojan PHC as a Social Organization. Total 25 number of students
observed and collected data on the topic ‘Hospital as Social Organisation; A
Sociological Study in reference to Kakojan PHC’ under the
supervision of Borsha Rani Bora. The major objective was to observe the
relationship between doctor and patient, doctor and nursing staff and
availability of material resources and other facilities.
The 4th semester
students of the department of Sociology (2019-20), Kakojan College has done a
field study on the topic ‘problems of Old Aged people: A Sociological Study
in Kotikuchiya Village, Jorhat, Assam’ on 20/4/2019. The major
objective of the field study WAS to find out the problems of old age person the
village.
A field study on Socio- economic
condition of Mariya Community with Special reference to Do-Gaon,
Kakojan, and Jorhat was done by the Department of Sociology, Kakojan
College on 10/9/2019 under the supervision of Borsha Rani Bora and
Amorjyoti Borah.
A field study was conducted
in Durgabari Tea Estate on 24/9/2019 by the students of 3rd
semester of the Department on the topic ‘Impact of Education in changing
trends among the tea garden community, A Sociological Study in Durgabari Tea
estate’.
Department
tof Sociology Conducted a field study by the students of 6th semester
in Kotikuchiya Village, Teok and Jorhat on 1st
June, 2022 under the supervision of the faculties of the Department. The
students were divided into five groups and they collected data on the following
aspects in the village – socio-economic
condition, political participation, health seeking behavior, agriculture and
farming etc.
Students of the 6th semester conducted
field study on various topics such as
Socio- Economic Condition, medical pluralism, Self Help Group and Women Empowerment,
culture and rituals, political participation and political awareness, Socio-economic
Condition of Munda etc. Students

of International Day of Girl Child on 11/10/2019.

programme on the occasion of Girl Child Day was organised by the Department of
Sociology on 24th January, 2022.
v The National Girl Child Day was observed on 24th
January, 2021. A Poster making competition was arranged on the occasion of the
day. It was a small effort to fostering the attitude of gender equality and to convey
the message of equality among the students through the posters
