Department at a Glance: The Department of History of Kakojan College was established in 1967. Mr Sirajul Hussain and Girin Saikia were the founder faculty of the department. Initially, history was taught in the pre-degree classes in 1967 and in the same year, the subject was introduced as a core subject at the degree level. The department has been started History as a major subject in 1991. The strength of the faculty was also increased as Ms Jayasree Saikia and Ms Sarmistha Goswami joined the department in 1992 and 1994 respectively against two non-sanctioned posts. After the founder faculty members’ retirement, Ms Jayashree Saikia and Ms Sarmistha Goswami got appointed to the vacant posts in 2003 and 2005 respectively. In 2003 a new lecturer Mr Lakhya Pratim Nirmolia was appointed as a non-sanctioned teacher and in 2013 according to the plan of the Education Ministry of Government of Assam an additional post was granted against the name of Lakhya Protim Nirmolia. The present strength of the department is three regular permanent teachers.
The vision of the Department: The Department of History aims to make the students aware of the past and its legacies through teaching, research and extension activities related to Regional History, Indian History as well as World History. The Mission of the Department: (a) Transform the students into citizens who are well-informed about the past and its consequences for the present. (b) Promote students in the socio-cultural and political history of India in general and Assam in particular (c) Empower students with knowledge about the interconnection between the al, national, regional and local history which will equip the students to face the challenges with confidence.

Course Outcomes (CO) and Programme Outcome (PO) Course Outcome: The course covered by 1st & 2nd semester HISH aims to acquaint the students with: 1. History of the Evolution of Mankind 2. Political and Socio-cultural history of Ancient Greece and Ancient India. 3. Socio-cultural formation of the Medieval World The course covered by 3rd & 4th semester HISH aims to acquaint the students with: 1. The knowledge of the Political and Socio-cultural history of Early and late medieval India. 2. History of Renaissance and 16th-century Europe 3. The history of the important revolutions of the world taking place between the 15th to 18th centuries. 4. History of the growth and consolidation of the Mughal Empire. The course covered by 5th & 6th semester HISHC aims to acquaint the students with the knowledge of: 1. The significant developments of International Politics during the 19th and early 20th centuries. 2. The historical development of India's socio-economic and cultural scenario from the downfall of the Mughal up to the Sepoy Mutiny. 3. History of the Bengal Renaissance and Indian Freedom Struggle and making of Indian Constitution. 4. History of the emergence of socialism, Bolshevism, Nazism, and Fascism and their impact of them on world politics The course covered by the 5th & 6th Semester HISDSC aims to acquaint the students with the knowledge of: 1. History of Assam from the advent of the Ahoms to the occupation of Assam by the British. 2. The History of Assam under the British and the role of Assamese people in the freedom movement. 3. The history of the socio-cultural development of the ancient, medieval and modern Assam. 4. What is History, the relation of History with other disciplines and the evolution of historiography of India and the world as well? Programme Outcome: • Students will gain complete knowledge of the growth and development of society in ancient times. • Students will gain knowledge of the development of Indian History from the earliest time to 1947. • Students will acquire knowledge about formation and development of Assamese society from the ancient period to the Modern period by studying the history of Assam • Students will gain knowledge about the social and cultural formation of the ancient and medieval world, especially Greek and Rome • The students will learn about the growth and development of the modern West, the Renaissance, the development of the fine arts, humanities and International Politics. • The students will learn how to prepare and write history. They will also acquire knowledge of the development of history in different parts of the world and the regional history of India
