Department at a Glance:
The Department of Assamese was established as a founder Department of the college in the year 1967. Late Dr. Prabhat Chandra Goswami was the first Head of the Department. The Department attained the permission to start major course from the affiliating Dibrugarh University in the year 1981.
The Department has been striving its best for academic and personal excellence. The Department has been involved in teaching as well as various academic activities (seminar, workshop, educational tour programme, field trip, popular talk, etc.) and extension activities of the college. The Department Students are also active as member of NCC and NSS.

Achievements: -
1. The Department secured second position in the Inter Department Cultural Rally Competition held on the occasion of Annual College Week celebrations of Kakojan College in 2014-2015.
2. The Department bagged 1st (first) position in the Inter Department Wall Magazine competition held by the Student Union of Kakojan College in 9th sept. 2014.
3. The Department secured first position in the Inter Department Cultural Rally Competition held on the occasion of Annual College Week celebration of Kakojan College in 2015-2016.
4. The Department secured First position in the Inter Department Cultural Rally Competition held on the occasion of Annual College Week celebration of Kakojan College in 2018-2019.
5. The Department secured Third position in the Inter Department Cultural Rally Competition held on the occasion of Annual College Week celebration of Kakojan College in 2019-2020.
6. Mrs. Runima Baruah, (Retired in Jan. 2012) faculty member of the Department has received 3rd prize in All Assam Inter Book Publishing Competition held by Assam Sahitya Sabha in 2011.
7. Sri Jayanta Pathak, Alumni of the Department has received second prize in All Assam Chandra Prachad Saikia Memorial Short Story Competition held by Gariyoshi Megazine in 2008.
8. Sri. Jayanta Pathak, Alumni of the Department has received 3rd prize in All Assam Short Story Competition held by K.C. Das Commerce College on account of Silver Jubilee on 2009.
9. Sri. Jayanta Pathak, Alumni of the Department has received Youth Literary Awards by Sahitya Academy in 2014.

1. Inter Jorhat District Assamese Departmental Seminar held on 05/10/2010 on the topic “Collection of Eastern and Western Philosophical Thought for the Formation of Modern Assamese Drama”. Prof. Jogen Chetia, Dramatist, Critic was present as Resource Person on the Seminar.
2. A Departmental seminar held in 10/09/2011 on the topic “Assamese Short Story : Nature and Development”. Dr. Binapani Devi, Associate Prof. of J.B. College was present as Resource Person.
3. Educational Tour to Majuli of T.D.C. 3rd Year Students under the Guidance of Late Madhab Sarma and Dr. Dharmendra Dutta in 27/11/2011- 29/11/2011.
4. A Departmental Seminar held in 04/10/2012 on the topic “Trends of Assamese Modern Poetry”. Dr. Jyotirekha Hazarika, Associate Prof. of J.B. College was present as Resource Person.
5. Educational Tour to Saraguri Sapori, Sibsagar of T.D.C. 2nd Year Students under the Guidance of Mrs. Runima Baruah and Dr. Dharmendra Dutta in 18/12/2012.

17. Educational Tour to Pasighat, B.A. 6th Semester Students under the Guidance of Departmental Faculty Members in 24/12/2021.
18. The Department organized Guardian meetings in every Semesters to discuss about the student’s progression.
19. The Department has a literary platform entitled “Akhara Ghar”. This platform provides the students of major and non-major respectively to display their creative talents. The students can contribute their thought and ideas on any literary topic and this platform provides scope to express their creative activity.
